John Stamp Sanderson was born 26 January 1876 in 'Sunnyside' Wallabadah NSW, and died 9 June 1948 in Swamp Oak Creek, Limbri NSW. He married Maude M J Fitzsimmons 1914 in Tamworth NSW, daughter of Michael Fitzsimmons and Miriam Jones. She was born 1886, and died 1949 in Tamworth NSW.
John was given the name of the baby son his parents had lost 18 years prior and his paternal grandmother's maiden name for his second Christian name. Baby John died on the 6th of January 1858 and John Stamp was born o the 26th January 1876. The coincidence of dates may have prompted them to favour the name John. John left home and went to work as a stockman in the Tamworth NSW area. He married at the age of 38 years in Tamworth NSW to Maud Fitzsimons who was ten years his junior. John and Maud had one daughter and sadly Maud died in childbirth. The child was cared for by Maud's sister who lived in Tamworth NSW. Miriam or Minnie, as the child was known died aged three years from Meningitis. John did not remarry and in 1922 resided at Wallabadah NSW. He began working in the Tamworth NSW district again and in particular Swamp Oak Station at Limbri NSW. He died an accidental death from drowning at the age of 73 years. While crossing Swamp Oak Creek, which was swollen from recent heavy rain, John's horse reared and threw him into the water. A railway signalman was about a quarter of a mile away and witnessed the accident. The signalman saw John scramble to the bank and grasp a hold and hurried to the scene to help him. Once at the scene however, John had disappeared and the signalman saw John's head reappear 100 yards down stream and disappear again. The horse in the meantime had galloped into the village and several people sensed all was not well and had local residents made a search of the river. After an extensive search the body was found about two miles down the creek from the point where John was thrown, lying on a sandbank in the centre of the creek.
